Effect of furfurylation treatment on technological properties of short rotation teak wood

Short rotation teak wood has low quality especially in dimensional stability and durability. Furfurylation treatment was applied to improve technological properties of the short wood. The purpose study durability through furfurylation treatment. sapwoods (Plus Perhutani Biotrop teaks) were treated impregnation process 45% furfuryl alcohol (FA) 5% tartaric acid as catalyst followed by heated oven at 120 °C for 16 h under nitrogen atmosphere. Dimensional characterized volumetric swelling, anti-swelling efficiency (ASE), water uptake (WU), bulking effect (BE), meanwhile decay determined weight loss (WL). results show that ASE increased average 64%, WU decreased 59%, BE 11%, which indicated improvement stability.
